Introducing WhyQ – the 21st century way to beat restaurant queues
4 November 2013

At last there’s some tech driven relief for those of us tired of standing in queues for restaurants. Freshly launched onto the market, the WhyQ app will be arriving soon at restaurants all over the capital, meaning London restaurant-goers will be able to wait in a virtual queue system instead of a physical one. That precious time lost queuing can now be spent shopping, relaxing or even enjoying a cheeky pre-dinner drink.

Founders Michael Pearson and Amit Joshi set-up WhyQ after being inspired by a trip to Manhattan last year. “We were out around the Meatpacking District and realised that there were a whole load of great restaurants that didn’t take reservations, were full and didn’t have queues. We looked into it and discovered that each and every one was using a virtual queuing system”, said Michael. His co-founder Amit agreed, “We looked at each other and said: “Hang on, why do people have to wait in London and not in New York?” We need to introduce this at home.”
WhyQ honed their system and supporting web site during a pilot launch in collaboration with renowned Islington eatery, The Pig & Butcher. “The Pig and Butcher are using WhyQ because they are passionate about continually improving their customers’ experience,” said Michael. “Giving people the freedom to choose what they want to do while waiting for a table helps enhance that experience.
Jack Ross, the owner of the Pig and Butcher, said of the introduction of WhyQ: “Michael and Amit spent some time with our team and helped us run our queue on the WhyQ system for a few weeks. The reaction from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive. None of them can believe that nothing like this had ever been tried in London before.”
Since introducing WhyQ, Jack has seen the number of people willing to wait for tables grow substantially. He puts this down to people having more confidence. “No one likes the uncertainty of not knowing if or when they might get a table. WhyQ takes that uncertainty away and allows our customers to do whatever they want with their time, with complete peace of mind.”
WhyQ makes those boring, often cold and wet, and downright irritating queues a thing of the past – great for customers and great for the restaurant.
A limited free trial with WhyQ is now available for restaurants with a passion for customer service. To get in touch, check out our website: www.whyq.eu
